Hey everybody,

I have a new text based RPG site which I devoted hours to and it looks like only 3 people have registered since I've started it. (I believe it's been a week already)

I've submitted it to about 300 search engines, 50 directories, and have banners all over the place..

Do you think it's good enough? I'm getting a lot of hits since I've started already (about 30-40 uniques/day) but people aren't registering..

Any ideas, as this is a gaming site, and it really needs promotion to get started..

Thanks

What makes your RPG forum special?

Tell them that.

Yup, exactly what NOT to bother doing

Here's a few ideas to get you started:

1. Post on RPG forums and add it to your signature. Post some more.
2. Write articles about it and link it in your resource box. Submit them to EzineArticles.
3. Tell your friends and have them tell their friends
4. Start a PPC campaign
5. Write an interesting/funny/provocative article, post it on your site and submit it to social bookmarking networks.

"4. Start a PPC campaign"

Do you really think this is a good idea? Traffic can be easily obtained through free techniques.. resorting to PPC is lazy IMO, but then I'm a naturally tight-fisted person

To the OP - give visitors some incentive to sign up. Even if it's just a small incentive, once they're signed up you can pull them in with some well written copy.

What's the RPG like? Archmage and Archspace? LegacyWorlds? Or is it different?

If it's the kind of game you're running, the best way is always to make friends who already play these ones and told them about yours. Not as spam, of course. But, with friends, you can go a long way (trust me, I know the admin of LegacyWorlds, he's a good friend )

I think he's saying they're not converting once at the site.
- Make the signup more obvious, bigger, above the fold.
- remove options for guests other than signup. include bare minimum.

Yes I think it helps as your landing page is terrible. You force people to register without allowing them to see anything, they have no idea what they're registering for. No way would I register on this site.

You need to put a lot more content on your home page to explain what is going on. Do people even need to register? Cant you just give them an option to enter as a guest so they can try it out? If they like it then they can register to get the 'full experience' whatever that may be. I don't know what this is as I like most people haven't bothered to register

*Registers.*

Advertise on video game/rpg sites. I just registered...and after less than 10 minutes of playing...there's nothing to do as the few players have hardly any gold!!! (I'm Ragnar.)

Add a page where we can vote for the game at RPG link sites, and offer a reward each time we vote *hint*citizens*hint*. That's what a lot of other game sites do to get new players. Depending on the link site, you can vote once each day, or once a week.

Can you advertise on myspace? There might be a group dedicated to rpg players... Also try yahoo groups as well...
