Tim,
I used 7 Search for a long time, and may use it again in the future. I got less traffic and clicks from 7 Search than from Yahoo Search Marketing or Google Adwords, but I was able to secure a #1 position for my most important keywords rather cheaply - from .25 to .35 per click. I think the problem I had with 7 Search is that it doesn't have the coverage that Yahoo and Google do. I could deposit $25 with 7 Search and it would last a month or two (not many clicks).
Bidvertiser - I signed up and took the free $20 offer for click throughs. Like you, I saw the recommended bids to get top positions and thought I had made a mistake even looking at this. However, since I had a $20 credit to play with, I set my max bid to just 50 cents for all the site categories. The top few listings had bids of $4 and $5 (business sites). I set a daily budget of $2 in clicks. So far, I have received clicks every day and have had several prospects come through directly from Bidvertiser ads. I use a tracking URL to verify this. So, you might try setting your bids low with a daily budget and just try it and see what happens.
