If you plan to go big, you need to develop your own. Otherwise, you're entire cashflow is dependant on someone else's application. MySpace changes the logic/layout on a page, and you're cashflow stops until a 3rd party can get their ducks in a row.
Also, the adder programs out their today are mostly 'remote controlled' web browsers. It's much more performant code if lower-level objects are used for the HTTP communication.
