For some odd reason there is a person who thinks it is legal to take a BLOG post and put it on thier website.

I use feedburner to publish my RSS feeds and it looks like this person is taking RSS feeds from 10 or more people and putting them on their website. Not only that but there is no mention of credit or anything.

At first I got mad and contacted someone. They gave me the Millenium Act info and told me how to file a complaint.

While I was waiting for my email reply I did a quick test.

Turns out the person stealing my content isn't doing ANY editing.

I posted some stuff about how stupid they are and was having fun with them since I knew they would steal the content for their site.

Then I started to load up my posts with Advertising. Sure enough my Ads are now showing on their site. Very funny!

I found one of the other BLOG owners and told him to start loading up the ads too.

Now I am looking for some DHTML code to do something special on their site. Javascript might work, but I don't know if they will be able to scrape that.

Take Care,

Michael

We've run into that problem, too. I'm not sure how those sites make money when it's our ads and adsense stuff that show up. We've also had people steal content and t leave our authors names on it (this is content that was original to us and was not distributed to anyone else), we've had people steal our content and put their names on it, and we've had people steal our content and put their name on it and then distribute it to ezine sites for redistribution with their name and website links in it.

The ezine sites have been cooperative in immediately removing articles when we notify them. But it's still a pain to have to track this kind of stuff.

When we can't find a webmaster or site owner to contact, or they don't respond, then we've filed DMCA notices .

this is part of syndicating content via RSS. to some degree having other webmasters copy your content is a good thing, put up links to your sponsors or your websites and you'll benefit from 1. more traffic to your sponsors and 2. more one way backlinks to your own sites from other domains.

Yep, that is the only reason I didn't report them yet.

haha, I did the same thing a while back, I flooded a site's whole front page with "this post has been stolen" etc., posts. they never contacted me nor did they remove the posts. nor did they stop.

what I ended up doing was finding out who their registrar and host was (using whois and tracerouting their DNS) and sent an email to the site owner telling them they're stealing my content (and someone else I knew), but I also CCed the registrar and host's abuse depts.

This quickly got a response and the guy gave me the "well, it's syndicated" excuse, to which I replied, "yes, but the point of syndication is for people to eventually find the source of syndication, which is impossible if you don't credit the authors". With that, he not only cut off the stealing but actually took down his site. I wasn't expecting that last part

just let it be, as long as you got the oneway backlink
