I've made a "living" on a fully funtional e-commerce site for some years. But I'm tired of making $30k/year while busting my *** selling stuff and all that goes with it.

I am trying to figure out how people are claiming they make, for example, $30k per MONTH by using myspace.

So I installed a friendadder on myspace for my legit site and now I want to use it for a seperate, not so legit, myspace account.

But I'm trying to figure this out:
Let's say I have 1000 or even 5000 friends on a myspace account. Then what?? Send them comments or bulletins that drive them to an MFA site? Even if they all went and I got tons of adsense clicks, then what? How many times are they going to go to the same site and click on ads?

My question is: Without divulging top secret info, how the hell are people making money on myspace by driving friends to another site?

good question

From what I understand,, ppl make the free myspace styles and backgrounds so the user will come back time after time.

Also the arcade are a big hit, I've seen some ppl make good money just off a free arcade site.

other then that, I don't know, we'll see what the real earners say

That is something I had been mulling around (myspace graphics) but was pointed to a bunch of posts about other ways to make $. It all sounded very nebulous with nobody offering anything concrete.

I think you shouldn't rely on MySpace traffic 100%, but work on SEO, buying links, etc. MySpace accounts tend to 'wear out' when you already commented everyone, or when someone notices you post too many bulletins/ads. That's one of the reason why you need as many accounts possible.

As long as you keep adding new friends you will get more visits to your MFA and clicks.

I never drive my myspace traffic to MFAs.

I think the point a lot of people miss about MySpace traffic is that MySpace users are membership whores. If you drive them to a quality membership site they will sign up. Especially if it's free, like a forum.

A lot of people overcomplicate myspace advertising. It's really simple. There's a myspace group out there for nearly every niche you can possibly think of. If there isn't one then it's not likely a niche to get into due to lack of interest. Find that group of people and find out how to drive them to your niche related membership site.

Myspace value to us as marketers is far more than the traffic and users themselves. You've got to think!!! The trend and social data alone you can glean from watching myspace is invaluable.

I'll say no more

You work in a customer support sweat shop and you're speaking of myspace using "we"?

That's like working as bathroom cleaner at BurgerKing and saying "we" at Burger King have major plans for 2007.

You're not exactly on the dev team, so I highly doubt any changes they make involve you or your input... Am I correct?

sweatshop? lol

we have meetings every day on things that marketers are doing on myspace. if you want to put it as me working in a bathroom then go for it. im part of the monitoring team and our job is to crack down on all the spammers and marketers. sweatshop? i think not but you can think anything you like.

they have laid out a plan for us and when i say we is because i am a part of myspace (as an employee). its like saying your just a poster with powers here on EF. is that true? or are you part of the team and have some say and input?

So they hire people off the street and immediately put them to work making decisions at myspace?

That's awesome.

I said sweatshop because in another thread you said you were "customer service". So as soon as you figure out what you're going to say your job is today we can be done

As for my affiliation with EF. I'm a moderator. Not an admin. So I can suggest things but that doesn't mean at all that the admin staff has to or even will listen to me. So no, there is no we. I'm a mod.

i never ever said i made decisions at myspace. what i said is we were going to change certain things cause that's what we (the team) were hired to do.

there are certain decisions you can make here on your own. so take my job as whatever you want. i don't really care and i was just simply giving a statement.

So why did you say you were customer service in the other thread? Were you confused?

Or are you really just customer service and you're confused as to what that means?

Steve, since you are 'MYSPACE', i'll refer to you as that entity..........

Steve, your web architecture sucks ***, and you should be embarrassed at the state you've let that mess become. You'll never beat the spammers because you are too stupid to even keep your site running smoothly for > 12 hours. You obviously can't even implement the simplest of fixes, because that mongo mess of spaghetti code is wound up so tightly that your lead developer can't even scratch his *** without taking half the site offline, much less refactor that garbage. You are running thru some crappy cold fusion emulator on top of dotNet, and you can't even keep your query string variable names consistent. Furthermore, you pimp the same ****ty ringtone ads that we do, except our landing pages load faster.

Congratulations on your success. With the progress you've shown thus far, I'm sure those 'meetings' you have with your team are about as enlightening as a pre-shift meeting at Huddle House.
