I wrote a custom app to track my traffic on all of my domains in one spot. Tonight when I signed in I noticed one of my domains had 10 times the traffic as normal.

So I dig into the details and see that it is a page that I was no longer promoting.

So I hop on over to my AdWords account. Looks like my Paused ad group got clicks today and a nice little bill too.

I emailed support, but thought I would see if anyone else had clicks on paused ad groups.

No problems here. 80% of my campaigns are paused, and none of those has been active today. The active ones are chugging along nicely.

I got a reply back from Google. They confirmed my paused ad group got clicks yesterday. They are going to look into the problem.

After I posted my message above, I did end up getting some views on a couple of CPM ads that I had paused. According to this blog post, it affected ads on the content network only. If you haven't already got your refund for the clicks (and you do want it), then ask them for it.
