I started a niche book site and am thinking of holding a contest to generate sales and to attract visitors. Below are options I am considering, any feedback is appreciated.

A) My initial thoughts were to offer reimbursement of a purchase for a random 1 of the first 20 people to make a purchase. Do I have to worry about "no-purchase required" laws in the US in order to offer this?

B) What if I just state I will reimburse the 20th purchaser and then track orders/sales to see who that is.

C) Otherwise I may have to settle for offering an Amazon gift certificate for those who register an email address and do a random drawing. Is $50 enough incentive to draw people and have them provide an email address so I can begin building a list?

Why not offer a free niche book to each person who gives a valid email address. I.e make them confirm it, and 1 free niche book per email.

This would build your list surely with targeted people who are interested with books, you could even also set up some coreg deals so you would make some of your cost of the sale back while still giving one away free.
Once you have enough traffic and link backs with people spreading the word, drop the free stuff.

I'd do a referral contest. If customers can refer 10 or 20 people to the
site, you'll give them a freebie.

Even better - offer a OTO upsell during the purchase process to set the
perceived value. Then, make them the killer offer: if they can refer a
small number of uniques to the site through a special tracking link, you'll
give them the upsell free.
