I run a weight loss site, PhenForum.com, and I'm about to launch a contest very similar to the new EF contest.

My current list of prizes is:

1. 3 Month Supply of Phentramin non-rx diet pills ($147)
2. 1 hour consultation with Ian Robertson, CPT - our personal trainer ($45)
3. Fat monitor and scale ($39)
4. Pedometer ($19)
5. One full year of membership to our weight loss program ($120)
6. PhenForum t-shirt ($15)

Any other ideas? I'm looking for something to give to the first place winner only.
What would you give?

Depending on your budget, I would give something unrelated to your topic like the EF contest does. An iPod or something like that.

Ahhh ok. I was going to do a Schwinn Exercise Bike for 1st prize, but maybe you're right and I should make it an unrelated item.

Anyone else care to comment on this?

Just think about what you think your users will strive for more. Perhaps you could let them choose between the bike and something else.

Well, what if you made it a joint between an iPod and a bike? "Listen to your iPod AS you bike and lose weight!"

It is a good idea. I know it might even get me to get off my lazy *** and do something. :-p Music is a good motivator to work out.

Give something that people want to buy, but can't because it's
too expensive. I'd choose something within the niche though,
because you want to attract targeted traffic.

How about buying some of your "competition's" products and
offering them up? Once the contest is over (or before), slap up
some affiliate links so people who didn't win can buy anyway

Good way to get enemies as well But I do agree with the niche idea. Although most of the items you have seem to be niche items besides the iPod. I like the iPod and bike idea, if I were you that is something I would do.
