I know facebook and other social networking sites are good to get website traffic but i don't know how.

Ok so i have an account on facebook, uploaded a few pics and have plastered by websites address where ever i can. Now what?

How does it actually work to get traffic?

Do you randomly invite as many people as you can to be your friends and hope they visit your website? Email every one you can?

I havent heard of facebook, but assume it must be something like Squidoo.

You say you have "plastered your web site everywhere you can" but that isnt enough.

People need to get to know something about YOU. Post something about yourself and preferably add your picture too.

Also does your web site include a lead capture page? I dont know what you market but opt in pages are very effective, rather than just a company replicated web site.

If you can make a free offer of some kind, its more likely that you will have people give their email addresses, and you need that as people seldom buy on the first exposure to something.

Also, Squidoo allows key words so people can do a search and makes it easier to find your site.

So I would think facebook would be the same.

Hope this helps,

Joanne

It's not like Squidoo. Try making a group for your site and inviting people. I've never tried it but that's pretty obvious.

If you're using not so above-board marketing tactics, FB will be tough. Unless I'm mistaken, they do not allow html in comments etc. I'm not familiar with their layout but they are HUUUGE.
But, you'd have better luck with hi5 for sure.

i predict this is gunna be as big as squidoo soon....

squidoo was a smaller player until myspace got the slap

now squidoo has been slapped this little facebook is going to become a major key player for the seo experts to exploit and find loop holes that google love.

a good marketing friend of mine is working on something and keeps me updated. its looks very very promising.

I haven't heard of people doing this yet. I kinda hope it doesn't happen, cos I don't want facebook to turn into myspace!
