There are many ways : Directory (free and paid) listings, banner ads on popular sites, google ads or similar kinds of stuff. Another way is social bookmarking promotion. I do this social bookmarking promotion. PM me for details.

First and foremost before you spend a dollar on promotion or advertising, hire a copywriter to address the copy on your site.

... and get a clue about SEO. I'd also stay away from the "jack of all trades" strategy. Who needs another designer that can do it all? they're a dime a dozen. On the other hand a designer that specializes in fast loading, eye catching, with sparse eye candy will quickly land a privileged spot on my list of suppliers.
