Depends on what the website offers.
Product/services websites typically have more advertising traffic, as long as the conversion come, more money is spent trying to obtain more traffic.... thus a significant amount of the sites total traffic might be paid for.
Content websites, most traffic is from the search engines or linkbacks to popular pages etc.
Community/content websites, a lot of traffic comes from word of mouth, the user referrals etc, links, and search engines.
In general, most traffic on my sites come from search engines.
