Im fairly new to web promotion so bare with me..

I recently finished my new website e-Rants.co.uk and promoted it in every way i could think of without spending any money (because i havent got any :blush

Ive managed to get 5000+ uniques and 61000 hits in the first 15 days.

Im quite proud of that but ive only got 20 registered users (around 10 of those are real life friends).

How do i get more people to sign up??? any tips?

i dont know much, im pretty new at this too, and i learn something new everyday... However...
i would suggest you keep doing what your doing with gettin' the traffic...
also maybe hold a contest, or something like that, Only for registered users.
give them some sort of incentive to sign up... ya digg?

The whole point of the site is to join up and post rants or comments on other peoples rants. How will a game help anything

I think what onlinebiz was suggesting is to add a gaming section that would require people to sign in to play games.

After a quick glance the "top 10" section. I would suggest making the posts not as spread apart. The way it is right now, for me, it is hard to read. Here's an example of what I mean: rantpoint.com

Also, you will need to adjust the left column for firefox. It is way out to the left.

I did go to your site and here's my 2 cents worth and keep in mind this is how I think maybe not so much other people:

1 - First and foremost. Other than a forum I RARELY "register" for stuff online. If someone asks me for my email address I rarely give it. And believe me, I have a lot of email addys that are easily tossed away.

2 - Again with registration in mind, why would anyone want to register for a site just so they can "rant". The site is sort of like a blog but without any focus. You're asking people to go through a whole registration process to do what....just say, "I hate immigrants" or "I hate the Beckhams" and I'm just not sure people want to do that especially when they have no incentive to do so.

Which might be why the previous poster mentioned games. I don't agree that you should have games on the site but you DO need a reason for people to want to stay on the site.

Lastly, if this is a labor of love or just for fun it won't matter but if you are trying to monetize the site with Adsense, I think you need more adsense blocks.

And REALLY lastly...lol....if you are getting the uniques but they aren't registering, you should consider some type of CPM advertising.

Thanks for the info mike, ill take it onboard. Is there anything like adsense that do CPM? i dont think any established site will want to pay for advertising on a PR 0 site.

...with Mike.

1.) What's the REAL VALUE in me registering (which personally I wouldn't do, no offense :-)?

2.) I wouldn't put games on the site either. But when a visitor gets whatever it is off their chest, why would they come back (barring another rant)?

3.) I also agree that you might want to sit down and rethink how you would like to make money from the site. Adsense could be a part of that.

But something else you might want to think about is "beginning with the end in mind". For example, some people create sites with the intent of selling them one day when they get a certain amount of consistent traffic. Some people create sites just to make a few hundred dollars a month while some work to create a full-fledged, long-term income. Again, if it's long-term income, you should figure out how to monetize the traffic you're currently getting.

4.) Oh yeah, personally, I would change the look of the site. The rantpoint.com is a little more along the line of what I'm thinking. In other words, maybe "hit" visitors with something (e.g. picture/graphic, animation, or text) that's entertaining or funny when they first come to the site. Try to create a look that really compels your visitor to want to post their own personal rant.

Good luck and HTH,
Donald

Sounds to me like an immature waste of time... don't take that the wrong way though! What you need to do is target your visitors. Make sure that you get people who wouldn't mind taking the time to make rants or comment on them. I bet MySpace would be a great start for you.

You only have 14 rants. Maybe you could get a few more rants and then advertise it. Also you could put some of the latest rants on the homepage so that people can quickly see what sort of things are being said at first glance of the site and then they will get a quicker feel as to what your site is about.

its easy, every website that I see that lacks in something is "copy" ok for the newbies its the words and the offers you got on your page.

when a person is visiting your site they are thinking why should i sign up for that, whats in it for me???

so you gotta get in their boots and think what can I give to make em sign up.

also if you copy is lacking and its sounding boring no one will sign up also.

All good points above. You need to have something that people want to sign up for... a discussion they want to be involved in perhaps.

Hello

I believe you have to know where your targeted visitors hang out. Try your competitor website and see if they are better than yours or not.
Make some groups on facebook, myspace and there are lots of such social meeting places. Let people talk about your site. Post it in some related forums and see what people thinks about your site.

Steve

Unless I'm mistaken, they only care about the volume of traffic. I have a myspace resource site that get's minimal traffic and Adbrite accepted me pretty quickly. I make a few bucks off of it. There are many others, some are difficult to get accepted in such as Azoogle etc.

There's a section here on EF that specifically discusses CPA issues also.

If you are going the myspace route using a bot, the only one that is still working that I know of is friendblaster pro. keep in mind that none of the bots are able to get by the new capcha on myspace though.

Nice stats you got through your efforts I must say! Getting visitors to your site and getting them to sign up is two different things. You could try leasing back links for targetted audience.

Another way probably is to make a contest in your site with a nice prize. A banner that would announce the contest on your home page might just do the trick require contestants to register first before they can participate - a conventional way but an effective method. Hope it helps.
