If you invest your time properly and wisely in an social networking site with active participation it is bound to help you generate traffic for your site. Though it is time consuming but if you manage time accordingly it won't be much of a problem.

Yeah, I agree with Mark. I tried social networking and it's effective. Do you have a squidoo lens?

Just want to keep this thread alive. I know nothing about social networking advertising (through existing social networks) but have a very strong interest to know as one of the affiliate progams I'm involved in has a social network element.

Thanks.

I got 70,000 uniques within 4 days on one of my site from SU. But, these people have their mouse only on the "Stumble" button, so they don't click anywhere else. lol

Social bookmarking also works best at PR building aside from a good source of traffic

I have not had any real big successes with social book marking, but then I have not really invested the sort of time or effort in it that I expect is required. From what I have experienced, Squidoo offers a terrific opportunity to build lenses, which are basically free web pages. The video sharing sites also seem to offer a lot of opportunities to produce content and draw attention.

As far as "using without abusing" I think as long as you focus upon producing a quality experience for those who visit your social content, you're probably on the "using" side of things. The basic test I implement is to ask myself whether I would be willing to spend the time to read or view the content. If so, it's probably worth having on the Internet.

On the other hand, if you're just pasting a lot of keyword rich crap onto a web page so you can link back to your site I'd say that you're "abusing" the privilege.

I'm considering trying the StumbleUpon ad campaign..I guess for about $5 you can set up ads through Stumbleupon to bring unique visitors to your site (a PPC campaign to bring you traffic)...worth a try...has anyone used this?

I'm curious - I work on a blog that is 100% original content, very text heavy, and not even a little bit spammy. Since we have a lot of long and informative posts, I generally submit about 50% of our posts to StumbleUpon and similar sites, and they're generally rated pretty highly. Unfortunately, it seems like I may have exceeded some kind of limit for username and domain.

Has anyone encountered this problem, or found a way to work around it (aside from registering a new account every week)?

If you have a social networks links on your site saying bookmark this site and people use them, then that will not be much work on your part. Infact all it will cost of your time is putting the links on your website.
