I have been trying to up my page rank but does it honestly matter?

Money-wise, it mostly matters when you want to sell links.

no i guess it comes down to two things...

your traffic quality...and your copy

you need traffic but...the most important bit is copy because if you have lots of traffic and you cant convert that to the green stuff you havent done your job properly.

Focus more on your SERP as this is where traffic comes from.

However, if you really want to up your PR a notch, build quality backlinks with other high PR sites that are authority and relevant to your site.

Participate as well on "dofollow" blogs as this will help in your PR building. Just rememberto stay on topic and don't spam these blogs

High PR is pretty much a "looks good" bar for webmasters.
Just build back links for sites related to yours and lots of them, and you should be fine.

The main thing to focus on is traffic, and traffic that targets your site

High PR sites have more backlink from other site , for example Yahoo have millions of backlink from other websites/blogs.

Page rank really does matter.. read articles and blogs about SEO..you might find out that you really need to make your page rank higher.

Personally, I found that backlink from famous sites in your niche is much better than PR. PR only important if you want to sell link. However, nowadays, I don't think those advertisers will only look at your PR. They start considering about the traffic that your sites can bring to them.

So please don't bother about the PR but concentrating on your contents.

Page Rank is important as it is one of the metric people use to compare which site have more link popularity. No other ranking come close as yet.
