Someone please help. I just received this email:

Hi, After looking at the tracking of my website, I noticed that the majority of the hits are coming directly from your website. Since your website has nothing to do with mine, I am wondering there is a mistake or a wrong link on your site. This is a concern to my business, since it is a strictly networking website in my city. Please advise. Thank you.

I have no idea what is going on or how this could be especially as I had never heard of the site until today.

i checked out the site and it looked ok; it didnt look dodgy, very well designed, good content. My concern is why are people from my site apparently going to this site and how do I stop this?

would surely appreciate your insight. thanks

There is really only two ways a site/page can get "hits" from another site/page and know about it.

One is for you to have a direct link from your site to the other, which hopefully you would know about.

The second is referrer spam.

The strange thing is why would somebody be complaining about getting direct referral traffic?

so 10,000+ signature links gets a toolbar PR value of don't care then

Cheers Steve.

So just a few more "me too" posts needed to overtake Dave then.

The only problem with the "me too" posts theory is you'll just end up deleting them for being "me too" posts. You'll be fighting a losing battle with yourself.

Good point.

I could delete one of my own "me too" posts before I actually made it and be caught up in a paradox!

I think I have a solution. As you delete one of your 'me too' posts you could reprimand yourself thereby increasing your post count. Unless you would then have to delete the reprimand because it refers to a post that's no longer present.

Maybe all that does is further sucks you into the paradox.
