Hi i took over a web directory ,it has 5000 pending links that are non reciprocated ,if i approve these links will it make a difference to my site rankings etc? ....thanks all comments taken onboard....

If you want your directory to be trusted in Google you should set it up so that it has quality links. Approving 5,000 links in bulk is a good way not to have a quality directory.
