Hi Everyone-

How can I determine how many times a keyword was searched for?

Google just gives a little bar graph that show a low, med, or high level. But I'm sure that graph is relative, I can't tell if 50 people or 5,000 people searched the keyword.

Neither are absolute

I can't seem to find one anywhere that is absolute. I'm also surprised there isn't one available since it seems to me that would be a crucial first step in determining keywords. If no one is searching for a particular keyword, then that keyword is probably a waste of time.

There isn't one, and probably never, ever will be.

Use them, extrapolate the information and add a very large pinch of salt, then monitor your site logs to see what brings real traffic.

The goodkeywords "data" comes from Overture which makes it somewhat less than useful.

I would trust Trellian tool more as it gives me also KEI index. However there are big differences between Trellian Historical database (more comprehensive IMHO) than new Trellian global.

combine 5 tools and do your math to find out the same terms that showed in all of them, these free tools usually just slices a small part of the big pie of the daily searches, so you can't assume to much with one tool.

That in itself is not so useful. Only if you had the precise search in which every keyword featured would you be able to use that data to improve your power to sell.

Lots of words have far too many meaning overlaps - in terms of what the searcher may be hunting. It could be very far away from the product or service you're selling.

Someone searching for "snoop dog" could be included in the tally showing the number of people searching for dogs, and that list could be used by a dog-magazine owner to reach her market, and the large number of Dr Dre and Death Row fans who saturate the impressions tally would forever be unknown, so the effectiveness of any relevant marketing within that scope would never be ascertained.

Try to use WordTracker (for daily basis of search query) and KeywordDiscovery (for monthly basis of search query).
