I recently made my first bit of income for selling ad space on my website, and I was thinking it might be wise to use that money to advertise for my site. My first thought was to spend it on google adwords, but then I wanted to get some ideas from everyone here on what else I might want to consider spending it on, or even if it is a good idea to do this right now.

My budget is $90 at the moment, and I would like to spend it in such a way that will get me the most traffic to my site. I guess my main goal is to increase my traffic right now, so I can in turn have a better monthly pageviews to show potential advertisers and hopefully be able to charge more for my ad space.

so, how should I spend this money? and is this a wise investment? thanks!

If you want quality traffic I'd say adwords are the way to go. If it's simply bulk numbers you want to show to advertisers, then you may want to look at something like stumbleupon.

Don't forget you can also do a lot of advertising for free. This article which I wrote some time ago covers many the most popular ones.

I'd spend the $90 on t-shirts, then do my online advertising for free.

T-shirts last a long time and you can get a lot of visibility from them if you give them to the right friends =)

lol, well that is something I've never thought of. I'm still giving this some though. on one hand I'd like to save the money and keep marketing for free, but I also think that spending a little cash to do some high traffic advertising might be helpful. thanks to both of you.

Link exchange and on page optimization for your site is good in low cost.

Adwords is NOT the way to go... unless you have a very long term perspective and expect to ramp up that budget.

The reason is adwords is Bursty - you will produce abdou 180 to 300 clicks for your budget if you are not in to specific a niche... how many conversions can you guarantee?

depending upon your stage - you may be far better off speding time on link exchanges - or some well placed paid links - to build your overall awareness and traffic.

Unless you have alot of money can can spend time tuning Adwords and landing pages and really driving conversions - you will just get junk.

Your budget sounds too low for success with Adwords realistically.

Thanks, I've pretty much decided now not to go with adwords. I've been looking into some high traffic link sites, and directories. most of the charge you, but it is inexpensive and within my budget. plus they are sites that tag similar niche sites, so I won't be among other topics. I'd like to keep it all within the art and design community. so anyway, I'm still researching, but have not narrowed things down a bit.
