I've started using such sites such as del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, and I spend most of my time on digg, to promote my website (http://www.rethinkto.com). But how do I promote my site effectively on these social bookmark sites?

I've just started using these sites, so I've only just submitted a few of my pages. In digg, for instance, I submitted one of my pages, and within 1 hour, I got 5 "diggs." But after that, nothing. It's been a few days, and it's stuck at 5.

So, what are some tips to promote your site using social bookmarks, and digg in particular?

(I "digg" other sites too so that it doesn't seem like I'm promoting just my site.)

thats good you have got 5 digs in 1 hr of your social bookmarking submission. digg.com is one of the top social bookmarking site to get more number of visitors. if you want to increase visitors visit the profiles of users and add them as friend, also see to that the information you have provided must be useful to them.

Eugene the way to market yourself through social media is to genuinely participate with the sites and meet new people. In networking with potential clients, customers, or others in your industry your build a network of people who will spread the word about you and do your marketing for your.

Also use the sites for research. If you want your content to do well on Digg spend time studying the content that already goes popular. Understand why it goes popular and what the community on Digg likes and typically votes for. Then create that content.

If you approach social media solely as a place to submit all your content the community will quickly turn on you and you'll get even less than the tumbleweed traffic Chris describes.

Participate, learn what the community likes, and then give it to them.

there are 2 reason to submit your site to social bookmarking sites. one to get traffic and second is to get backlinks. with all the social bookmarking sites around, its very easy to submit to whole bunch of dofollow SB sites to get the backlink advantage. but if you are looking to get traffic and Digg on a constant basis, then you really need to have a earth breaking story page which people will find genuinely interesting and will just keep digging. before you know, you hit the Digg frontpage. another way of doing it will be setup your own network of friends within Digg or any other Sb sites and use the power of networking

I just started using Digg about a few weeks ago, and have so far gotten about 80 or so "mutual" friends (kinda aggressively, by adding them to my friends list and hoping they would do the same, but anyways).

When I currently submit a page from my website to Digg, I make sure to "shout" it to all the 80 or so people. Generally, about 20 or so dig it. Maybe a few other general Diggers digg it, but 25, then that's it, no more.

So, I'm just curious about the best way to promote (pages of) your site using social bookmarks? Is it having the most mutual friends as possible (so you can shout it to them, and hope for some sort of viral marketing)?

I probably am approaching this method of promoting my website all wrong, but it's the only one (and quickest too) I could think of for the time being.

I've always wondered the same thing. Everyone talks about Social Bookmark marketing, but, to me, it sounds like advanced spamming. Let me know if you ever figure this out, cause I'm in the same boat as you. I'll post things on digg, and only a handful of people will digg it. I haven't gone around adding random people as friends yet, because that just doesn't seem right.

Two really good social bookmarking sites in terms of backlinks are searchles.com and jumptags.com. The tagging on these sites creates good SEO links.

For all of you who are submitting your content to sites like Digg how many of you actually spend time creating the kind of content that the Digg community is interested in? How many of you put in the time to take an ordinary blog post and turn it into something really good?

Most of you who aren't seeing any return it's because you're trying to force content on people that they really don't want and isn't really all that good. That's not meant as a knock on your content, but overall very little content is good enough to make the front page of any social media site.

Most of the market benefit in social media is indirect. If you actively and honestly participate you'll build relationships with other people on the sites who will do your marketing for you. That's not going to happen overnight and it still hinges on having great content.

You're trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Instead try building a square hole. Stop looking for quick fixes and start thinking about ways you can build long lasting value.

when we are going to work at social media profile you supposed to keep in mind a human psychology.. try to create some curiosity in your post. Your title must be eye catching and controversial. That must be curious to person who watching it.
