Here's the deal,

I want to contact all of my past clients about the upcoming football season. I know that some players have moved on to other leagues or are now playing for their schools.

My goal is to:
  1. Remind most of the parents that we are available for the upcoming season.
  2. Notify parents about our new website and blog.
  3. Inform parents about special promotions and contests.
  4. Hopefully attract more business other than football.
  5. And in general push more traffic to our website.

What would be the best way to go about this without seeming like spam?

Thanks,
-Sonny

my first question is: do you have their email addresses?

If you do, e-mailing would be the way to go. Provide links to your blog and your website in the e-mail. In the content, tell them about your promotion and contest and whatever else you feel like saying.
In the newsletter, you can offer them an Opt-out solution at the beginning of the email, and at the end an unsubscribe button. This will not be considered as spamming by SE's but it might be by the parents

If you need help, I can assist you with that. If you think you can manage that on your own (design, set up), constant contact is a good way to go.

They provide you with reports. You will be able to see how people thought it was a spam email. That will tell you how much they value your information. You will also see how many people received it, opened it, click through it etc...

Don't hesitate to write me if you have any questions.

Good luck

You can send them a general email. (an email message addressed to all)

because you have a common interest and have contacted them before, it shouldn't be spam. Spam imo is taking a list of unknowns (non subscribers) and emailing them stuff about things non-related with out giving them a chance to unsubscribe. Put a "do you want to unsubscribe" at the end of your letter, and also use the BCC by putting the email addresses you want to send to in that area... This will keep people on the list from being exposed ( i did it once and they got pissed~!)

dont worry, spam isn't as serious as what it's made out to be unless your a kingpin. I doubt your list is enough to be kingpin status.

If you provide them with useful content, they won't see it as spam. And again, you must allow them to easily opt-out of your list.

I got a new car now but my old car dealer still sends me marketing stuff. You can contact your past customers - just make sure you are providing compelling information and make sure there is a way to opt out. Good luck.
