I was looking for and could not find a consolidated list of ad companies that are reputable.

I currently use googles adsense, but would like other options.

My understanding of how this all works is limited, but there are essentially 2 types of ads, ones that pay per click and onces that pay per 1000 views or something right?

What are some reputable sources for both types?

What are some good sources for banner type ads (graphical like on this forum)?

Which sites offer the broadest range of ads? Which ones offer the best control over what content is shown?

I like adbrite, because they have quality image banners, and you will get traffic from them for free just by listing your website there to accept ads.

They dont pay so well, so go for CPM.

Depending on your site traffic there are a few other options such as Linkshare or Commission Junction. Personally I have found that ads never pay well unless you have enormous traffic. Where possible you can sell advertising direct to your market (example you have a site about Hot Rods so sell ads to performance parts shops).

As of yet i have no site traffic as i have just started the forums and am still working on them, while the forum is "live" i have not pushed it yet.

This has kept me from being able to get ads from 1 or 2 companies who wanted obsurd amounts of traffic.

However i have checked with maybe 10+ companies, all of which either have not provided the types of ads im looking for, have fallen short of expecations after signing up, or i simply didnt bother signing up because they didnt seem credible or to offer what i needed.

My problem now is that google is the only company that has offered relavent ads, and i can only have them within posts...i lack a main banner as well as short wide banner text ads...

Im signed up with adbrite and clickbooth. Adbrite has a nice control panel but so far, a-doesnt show any ads on my page, only the default and b-doesnt have many relavant ads.

Clickbooth's control panel is backwards and i dont have the patience to try and figure it out. Ive been waiting for my account manager to respond to my email since the 6th...

Im waiting on yahoo but after signing up i realized they have the rediculous rule of not having thier ads on a page with non yahoo ads...

Any other suggestions for a provider of ads that are relavant to computers (digital video, phot, graphics, hardware and software, etc), doesnt have the restrictions of yahoo or google, and offers image banner and text banners?

Going that route is fine and profitable, but if you have a niche you're in and populate your site with offers related to that niche without using programs like adsense, you could potential make 10 times the income.

Im not sure i get what you mean, you mean getting ads direct, like charging a specific company for thier ads...ie selling my space direct?

You can try AdReady.com and do cpm or cpc.
