Is writing a PR good? Better than spending money on PPC?

it depends:
- where you submit your PR.
- What keywords you are targeting: some work great with PPC, others are ridiculously expensive
- It depends one the quality of the PR

Give us more info if you want an more detailed answer

This thread probably illustrates the depth of the mis-information there is around and is getting read by newbies.

Comparing (or attempting to compare) PR (Press Release PR not the other less useful PR) and PPC is like comparing Apples (the fruit) and Camel dung.

A Press Release is something that you would produce occasionally when you have an important event planned or something interesting to announce. You certainly wouldn't put out a PR because you have 10,000 Black Japanned 2 1/2" x 10 Roundhead Slotted Wood screws at the bargain price of £2.01 / 100 (inc VAT) to get rid of sell.

PPC is a continuous process when you have products to sell and need to get pre-qualified traffic to the right page for the right product.

Why do you think ppc has to be continuous?

What if you use ppc to send people to your page which collects their name and address in an opt in form? Then you could shut down the ppc program and still have access to those people via email.

when you have products to sell is the qualifier

Obviously there are many scenarios where PPC can be used as a "one shot process" as part of a marketing strategy.

But for businesses that actually sell products, it ought to be a permanent part of the business strategy, bringing in the bread and margarine "low fat spread", with the free SE traffic providing the jam and the butter.

It really depends on your objectives. Typically PR is for branding - letting the media know about what is going on with your site/business. PPC is more for driving traffic and is more sales driven. I wouldn't compare the two. You should be doing everything to get coverage but make sure you define your objectives, be targeted and be able to measure your results so you know the effect of each campaign. Good luck.

Its true... The effectiveness of PR (Press Release) is not on the method itself, but how will you execute it.

PRweb is the best deal IMO, because you get the most bang for your buck. If you spend all out and get all options, you will see fireworks if you have quality content.
