Might as well download a free, home based spider kit, and send it to run amok over your site. All a traffic exchange does is waste bandwidth, and slow your site down for any legitimate users that might be there.

Go for MSN adcenter and Yahoo if you are not familiar with buying traffic.. they are more towards the beginner.

Also, check out services for sale sections in lot of webmaster / internet marketing forums, there are dirt cheap offers available. Just be sure to read the reviews, since the traffic can be fraudulent or juts plain crap.

Do some efferts if you aren't willing to buy traffic. Learn about SEO, so that you can generate the relevant traffic.

1. Get links from related but non competitive sites
2. Make sure anchor text contains your target keywords

Do your keywords research well if you want to do PPC as PPC can eat into your pocket fast if you don't know what you are doing.
As for traffic exchange...whether auto or manual...most can give you the 'hits' but may not be well targetted.
The best is still Free natural search engine traffic.

Sure my friend... even i have started with targeting less competitive keywords as can be optimized easily.
