There are almost as many ways to promote a website as there are webmasters. I would suggest you start by reading back through this forum as there is enough information in there to promote a hundred sites. Article marketing is my favorite method as I like to write and it's a no-cost solution but it isn't usually the fastest way to get the word out. You'll have to think about how much of a budget you have compared to the costs of faster methods.
Just try good SEO methods .. Submit your site to directories, if it contains articles then submit it to article directories too and lots more you can do
Sign up for some free blogs, write some articles, link them back to your website and post them on the blogs. That should jump start your spidering and give you a couple back links to boot.
There are so many ways it depends on what method you prefer. If you have the funds then you might be interested in ppc otherwise write article after article ( seriously it works) and forum marketing ( sig )
keep your marketing efforts relevant to your website's topic and target sites that have high traffic, and good pagerank. This will help your SERP and build positive backlinks.
