I agree. I think what people are going to start seeing is a lot more networking and a simple linkexchange (which is useful) is going to obviously have less worth than if someone's placing it into a key portion of a blog thats getting a lot of views.

You can start link trading as everyone has mentioned. Directory submission is also a nice option
