I need some revelant back links for one of my sites so I guess I am going to have to give away a few articles to get them.

Interested in what article directorys you think are the best for publishers. I have looked at Ezines and their submisson form looks complicated. GoArticles looks friendlier.

Most likely will only use one or two. Where is my best bang for my time and effort.

Only 4 there

But I am sure most would agree that these are top directories.

The best article site I use is "my own site"

No worries of duplicate content and 100% of the article readers are visitors.
Bonus points, 100% of the article's search traffic is also my traffic.

Try getting those kind of percentages with any other site

Good thinking Wllcode4beer! Another idea is to find a website (business) with that shares the same audience but does not compete, and offer them articles for their site. For example, a financial advisor and an accountant could form a good partnership. I have a web development company and we do this with a local IT company.

My site is currently in the process of writing articles for SEO.

We are going to work hard to submit the articles to the correct websites. We are aiming to submit variations on the article to around 10 high PR and Alexa ranked sites.

However, is this all that can be done with an article? What other traffic and SEO benefits can I use these articles for?

If you manage to get one backlink of value from each of the 10 sites then you have your monies worth IMO. That does not even factor in maybe one use on ther sites.

Some people also use them on their own site but I will not do that. I want the people who follow those links to find fresh content not the same thing they just read.

While I agree with your post #8 in that thread I think some limited article give away may have some value for site promotion.

And maybe I am wrong. Time and a few articles will tell the story. Heck if I average being right 60% of the time I still win most games.
