Hi
I've had chat site for more then 3 years now. I can't say it was profitable, but it stayed alive and it was just good fun. But I ran into some problems, these days there are hardly anybody on the chat, is was not very big because is mostly catered for Afrikaans speaking people from South Africa. Competition is quit fierce... and due to the fact that my Hosting ISP had routing problems for the past month made it even worse. All that problem created a really bad name to the chat. so now I sit with no chatters and my competition don't know what to do with them all.
I came up with an idea, that is to start a new chat under a completely different name and a new hosting company. It is going to replace the old one, eventually, but the idea is that no one should know that the new chat is related to the old one. I am going to change the chat software a bit to give a new look and feel. Just spice it up a bit. I also know out of experience that it is easier to gain new chatters when your chat is full then when you only have a few guys is there. That posses me with another problem, opening a new chat will mean that it is only going to be me and a couple of other guys that will be "invited". I need it to open with a bang to get maximum results and best growth.
So I came up with another idea (too many ideas too little time, lol). I need to let as many people know about the site and get there attention even before the site is officially launched. So come launch day they should queue up at the "door" to get in. Right, it all sound great, but how would I get there attention with no site? I could put up a fancy Flash thingy as an intro before the launch to get them interested? Also I can send out the current chat's newsletter and tell them about the new site coming soon, but I don't what them to know that the 2 sites are from the same owner, not yet!
So my question is, how can I advertise the site and get everybody interested even before the site is launched? I would really appreciate any feedback and/or ideas!
thanks
