Yesterday I created a hubpage and a squidoo lens that are almost identical to each other. Both were created with brand new accounts and these are the only content in either account. The pages were created within hours of each other.

In the first 24 hours the squidoo lens received 1 visitor, and that was me when I was not logged in. In the same time period the hubpage received 38 visitors.

This is curious to me since squidoo is supposed to be the much larger, higher traffic site. Is this disparity normal or is there something unusual going on?

I've never used hubpage but I haven't had much luck with squidoo, so I might take a look at the other to see if that could help. I guess it also depends on what the content is and who is looking at the time?

I don't think it matter really. Its the fact that both can give you traffic even if one doesn't give you that much right away. I don't use both on a regular basis but I \starting o see why others do regardless on how much traffic they get. It still has a link that leads back to your site.

Hubpages is more strict in dealing with spam than Squidoo. This gives it a more loyal following.

Yes hubpages is more strict and they manage to prevent the massive amounts of spam that you see on squidoo. So hubpages is more trusted by the search engines. Hubpages hubs usually get much better search engine rankings compared to squidoo lenses.

There is a downside to hubpages though. First of all, they only allow 2 links to a particular website per hub. Second of all, hubpages links are nofollow until you get an overall hubscore of at least 75. The hubscore is based on things like amount of content and amount of hub traffic. It can take a lot of work to get to a hubscore of 75.

Just to add an update.

The hupage that I created 6 days ago now has a score of 85 and has 88 page views. The squidoo lens still has 1 page view (that was me) and is dropping in the rankings.

From a marketing point of view I cant help but think that hubpages is better for me.

ok thanks for your tips. I do try using both and my purpose is driving traffic but creating back links. After all, I don't want to create a hubpage hubs that competes with my main site. It should act as a supplementary rather than direct competition.

Hey,

I also have noticed that pages from hubpages coming more in SERP than Squidoo lenses.

However, it's little bit difficult to keep our site links doffolow on hubpages.

My sense is that squidoo takes longer to see results from, but the results could be more valuable (in my experience squidoo lenses are always higher in google results than hubpages). Really the key with squidoo is to mingle among other folks' pages, leave comments, get your name out there...kinda like twitter, only with a much more robust home base.

Good to know that Hubpages is more strict with its content. I remember reading somewhere that Google warned Squidoo that it needed to produce more original content. I'm not sure what ended up from that, but in the future I can imagine Google and other search engines will give less weight to sites that just reproduce content elswhere on the net. Becuase that will easily become abused by internet marketers.

You have to either promote the lens outside of Squidoo for a little while (try their SquidU forums for a quick short-term, nice PR backlink) or turn on the "Discovery Tool" and have a catchy linkbait-style title

Squidoo generally only promotes the low lensrank lenses on it's site unless you make an effort - those are the ones they make money or get more visitors from. Groups can help too with the initial & staying push but most aren't worth it.
