All these are very important, but as some others have said you need to make sure you know who you are marketing to. I mean if you are article writing you don't want to write articles that kids would enjoy reading if you are trying to target adult men (if that makes since). When it comes to marketing period you need to know who you are trying to reach and then devote your time to finding them and advertise to them.

You almost stated all the possible ways in promoting a website. But for me, joining and participating in discussions decently to various forums related to my site is the most effective one.

That list is right on the money. I would also point on that with each of those listed, look for dofollow on each one. Dofollow means sites that pass the page rank onto your site. Free ad sites can be like adleaf, usfreeads, or kijiji.
Also with each of those listed, look for sites that are the most relevant to your topic(of your website).

You include all most things which are use by the SEO person butyou can add one more thing like social book marking sites, Social networking sites. Also you have to make more focus on are they do follow or not.
