Hi Guys

Lately I have been watching Alexa rankings of some sites.

Do you think they are fairly accurate ?

Does a website have to have the Alexa Toolbar in it to get rated ? or do they just go on hits by some other means ?

They're accurate for measuring what they do. Sadly, what they're measuring is useless .

Only users with the Alexa toolbar record visits
Only a small proportion of the surfing population have the Alexa toolbar installed, so the numbers aren't representative
You can fake the numbers by visiting the same site repeatedly

Measuring traffic as a value to represent a site's popularity might sound like a good idea, but the question is how is this kind of information to be retrieved. What Alexa displays is not representative at all.

alexa has not got much relevance except maybe for resellers of websites. It has got errors sometimes with lot of false alexa based on redirects. Also it is recognised as a malware by some antivirus software!
