I completely agree with willcode4beer. It was easy to build backlinks with social bookmarking a few years ago. Back then, those sites were less sophisticated and far fewer people knew how to take advantage of them to promote their own sites. Now it's much harder.
I've done enough of it by now to tell you that it's all about quality and not quantity. I've posted many links on many sites. Most of them have given me nothing back. Some do great. I now have a pretty good idea of which links to post and which ones to skip.
If you post a link to a quality article that is funny, original, useful or interesting, you will pick up some clicks and valuable backlinks. Otherwise, your time is better spent on other tactics.
