I don't know why Twitter search isn't working for you. That's very strange.

But anyway, on LinkedIn I would suggest completely filling out your profile, finding anyone you already know, and then joining some relevant groups. Get involved in the groups' discussions.

If you want to use Twitter for marketing, then you must start by posting links to your good blog posts. Follow someone who is also in the same field. Try to follow those who follow him/her too. Just don't overdo the following thing.

If you have twitter account that is more useful, You can get some short summary and update in your twitter with your link, that will drive you more traffic to you, but you have to make sure that you are having more followers for you and if most of your followers are your target auidence, that is awesome, you will get more clicks.

I usually just say things like "this is what the internet can do for your business" followed by the coupon code, and my company's site URL. Will that work? Hasn't yet...

The problem with this is that it sounds too much like advertising. Try to sound more genuine, like you were talking to a friend. And still make it catchy if you can.
