You can check the referer field in the headers that the browser sends, and sometimes it might be from facebook.com/...

You can check website traffic through control panel. For example if you have cPanel on your server then you can check traffic through AW-Stats.

AWstats is a great source for tracking stats. Will show you each referrer and how many hits you got from that specific link. I have even seen a referrer from emails and otherwise "locked" sources... so there is definitely a lot of ways you can do it.

Sometimes if you want to track specific links... i.e. individual stats from different campaigns... you can use links like http://yourhost.com/?id=1234 or any variation and log that data in many ways. This is more typically used for affiliate links to credit the respective accounts.

google analytics is one of the best tools out there to get a hold of your website, you can view different stats such as traffic per month and where it was coming..

Yah, I agree I use google analytics as well. So far I'm very much happy about it and had been very helpful for me as well.
