Cecille is right, in my opinion. So are the others, though. If you don't have time, you're not in the right field.
Unless you have money.
The BIG DOGS generally need to have patience (of this sort; I'm not saying they don't often start off with plans that will take years to effect) because they do have an advertising budget to start off with. This budget will usually help them sidestep the 'waiting game' we usually have to go through. These guys will often just invest a bunch of cash to start off with
just to test their ROI and tweak their pages. I'm not recommending you do this, too, unless you're already independently wealthy...but if you don't have the patience to constantly build and let it play out for
a year or more, then you'd better be somebody with a fat bank account who doesn't really have to.
Otherwise, what I think I hear you saying is pretty common. Once you do everything you can think of doing, what comes next? What if nothing happens?: What if...my site stays dead? The answer?
Do something
else. Because believe me, there's always something
else. Something you didn't think of. For me, the best things are the things that I can get into, every day. And don't forget to keep your site dandy -- tweak it constantly and find out where traffic is getting 'caught' in the flow. Keep thinking about it -- every day -- (yes, I am a freak) and ideas will flow to you.
Some ideas you haven't tried yet? I think my friend above said it correctly when he mentioned that you didn't bring up the kind of site or product you have or service you offer. That could change a lot; let us know and maybe we could shoot you ideas.
