Hello,

I set up a wordpress blog about my new online business but had no idea how to start. I've read a tons of ways to promote a site and just confused where to begin.

Post on twitter and Facebook your blog posts titles with the link. This should drive some traffic. Make sure to sign up and confirm your account on Technorati. Submitting blog posts to social bookmarking sites is another method to drive traffic.

post more content in your blog, it will be better if you post some new content in your blog

Start by posting quality contents to your blog. Make them as interesting as possible. Then bookmark them. If people like what they read in your blog, they'll visit it repeatedly.

take some reviews of ur site or business on huge traffic blogs like johnchow or others
and yea u can also get good traffic from social bookmarking sites. i personally use reddit, Digg, stumbleupon, facebook and twitter

Offer some free stuff such as ebooks or templates to promote your site? I know a lot of people are doing it nowadays.

A press release is a good way to promote your site.
Join Twitter and follow people around who are in the same niche as yours.
Then talk about your niche in Twitter and post your blog on Twitter. It will help you a lot...

Ping your blog at pingomatic.com to let the search engines know your blog has been updated.

Go to www.google.com/webmasters/tools and add your url.

And you could use ppc services - adwords, msn, yahoo, miva, ask etc.

The best way is that every week 2 time keep on posting. Do search engine submission, social networking, blogging forum and forum posting.

From these above way you can promote your blog.

Be sure you have a GOOD content and use all the methods to advertise it then only you will be able to earn. And traffic will follow. Also, if your blog is new don't put Adsense because they might think that you just want to earn money.

@Topic creator - everyone talks about promoting your blog online .. have you ever thought of promoting blogs offline ? like giving paper ads , telling your friends and family relatives , promoting your blog using press meet ? have you ever tried ? It will be more powerful than online promotion

I'd say establish some quality content for your blog first and after you've done that start networking with others who have blogs related to yours. Get out there and start interacting on others' blogs and make a name for yourself and your blog.
