hi, i have a couple websites i'm putting the finishing touches on and am going to be incorporating some affiliate links as a potential light revenue stream.

i have a few questions regarding the marketing and tracking of these products/services that i will be promoting, first of which is related to the tracking method these folks use to monitor the efforts of the affiliate marketing the product or service, they claim that they track the cookie for a set period of time, ie. 30-365 days depending on the merchant.

now my question regarding this method of tracking is; what about all those folks that use those adaware/spyware type programs that block cookies, delete cookies or the user just simply either deletes the cookie through the browser upon closing their browser each session or has their settings set in the browser not to accept cookies? does that effect the type of tracking method these affiliate marketing companies use to track the efforts of mine as an affiliate?

if so, wouldn't the same apply doing a direct opt-in email marketing campaign?

ie. potential customer/client of product/service recieves information from me by way of either through my website or a direct marketing campaign. decides to wait and think about it a few days, or weeks. within this time frame cookies and cache have been cleaned by the user, however decides now that a few weeks have passed that they want to buy and cruise on over to the product via a bookmark ready to buy, havn't my efforts just been null and voided? or am i just missing something here?

thanks for you input,
