Anyone have suggestions on who best does email marketing? Let's say I want to send out 10,000 email ads, who is cheapest and how much would I be looking to pay?

In all honesty email marketing does not yield good ROI and you would be much better off spending the money else where.

I would try doing some press releases. Your idea is good and I feel that this will give you the best exposure. You need to create the market before you can target it!

How I go about doing a press release?

Can you tell I suck at marketing? I'm a programmer at heart. I need ideas on how to get the word out to people.

If you were to do some banner advertising, you would probably yield a higher-than-average ROI on that as well. Your product, as Jamesanderson said, is very interesting, and a lot of people would probably take a liking to it if you presented it to them readily and steadily.

I would recommend running category-targeted 468 x 60 banner campaigns.

Although, unlike Jamesanderson, I do believe that e-mail advertising would probably be effective for you as well (although not as much as press releases or banner ads). However, rather than sending out mass mailings that will undoubtedly get discarded as spam, I would recommend putting an ad for your product in someone else's newsletter. It may be worthwhile to find a "tech tips" newsletter and submit your product idea to them. They often target people who are trying to get a grasp on how to do "advanced" things with computers, and your product would be right up their alley.

There's one I have heard of called "The Tour Bus." You'll have to do some Googling to find out how to advertise on it, though. SlashDot should be alright as well.

Ok I found some of these sites that send out bulk emails (opt-in lists). Has anyone had experience with dealing with thsese bulk emailers?

http://www.youradblaster.com/homepage.php
http://www.targetmails.com/emails.htm
http://homemediakit.com/internet-mar...ail-marketing/

I want to test a small amount with like 100,000 emails, so I can lose my money and never try it again. I don't want to test with any more money than I would be willing to flush into the Pacific.

If you do decide to use one of those, let me know how it turns out... I'm interested in doing some similar marketing as well.

Ok I will send a report. Now that I think of it, I have a report on TrafficFinder.us also...that deserves another thread.

I would start your own opt-in list for news, updates, etc. I think the bulk emailers are cr*p, and I certainly do not trust their statistics. I beleive most of the people who receive the emails are being spammed, even if is is "opt-in". How easily can they "opt-out"?
