I'm about to do a full redesign on my site, and I've started by

1) Finding many long tail niche keywords to focus on
2) Researching link building strategies

Part 1 is complete, and I'm in Part 2. I would like to hear from you:

A) What was your link building strategy?
B) What keywords did you target (I want to see how competitive your keywords were)?
C) How long did it take to see results?
D) How good were your results?

I know there are many options for link building, including

1) Pay for one-way links
2) Submit to free directories
3) Link exchange
4) Building highly informational keyword-rich pages to get natural links from the blogosphere/information sites

I'd like to know which methods you used.

Well, now days social media is really a great way to get one way links in natural way but for that your content should be of high quality, unique and useful to its users.

Can I ask what sites (social media) have given one way natural links? In my definition, a natural link comes from a site that wants to link to because they trust and value your site/content. In other words, if you drop the link in is NOT natural.

An example would be this article: http://www.homeconstructionimproveme...ent-halloween/ where this article mentions the launch of my site for fence products and later he linked to me under "Products" on his front page, I never asked for these links. That to me is natural.

In my own experiences, analyzing your competitors' marketing strategies would be a prompt way for your success. Using seoquake add-on and backlinkhunter service would be a nice choice.

For me I first work on my long tail keywords where my main and competitive keywords is also included. That means I am already targeting both.

I do link building techniques that I am aware of excluding paying for links.

In my process, I keep on participating in a do follow forums, article submission in top 10 article director, deep linking in creating blogs.. And I find it effective. Google usually indexed it.

Make some news worthy content, interesting video, images etc and you will see people will naturally link to your website.
