At least one way, early social networks are like a high school party – when parents get home the fun stops and everybody leaves. But as social elements become the driving force behind many of the web’s most popular sites, an increasing number of consumers young and old are finding casual online conversation crucial in maintaining and expanding business relationships. The argument over whether Facebook should be used for business will rumble on with strong views on both sides. It’s irrelevant really, because it’s going to be used for business anyway. It’s also good to see that LinkedIn is finally sharpening up its act – because until very recently many people didn’t feel that it was a social network at all.

So my question is very simple So my question is very simple So my question is very simple So my question is very simple Facebook Vs LinkedIn. Which one is the best right now?

They are two completely different types of networking websites.

One is for everyone.
The other is for professionals ( so no students and kids playing farmville! )

This question IMO is stupid and not even worth discussing further.

Absolutely!

The only thing this question serves to prove is just how little "marketers" understand what "Social Media Marketing is really about.

They are both garbage, most of the people on social networking sites are not even social, and most of the people using them are using them as big billboards for their websites, blogs, or bands.

ROFLMAO @ ChrisHirst. Yeah... The question is not a great one. It's like trying to compare MySpace with Twitter. They each have totally different purposes... and target different demographics.

While ALL social networks can be used for business, "how" you use them, the traffic you'll attract, and their effectiveness can be quite different.

@OP... IMO LinkedIn I use to make business contacts. It provides a way for me to post essentially a resume online for others to see. I can find people with certain skillsets and make contacts online. It's MUCH more business oriented.

Facebook on the other hand is more personal. It provides a way for me to keep up with friends and make new friends. Yes. It "can" be used effectively for promoting businesses by creating fan pages and posting interesting information that will attract more fans. But 99.999% of what goes on within Facebook has nothing to do with business and is mainly people shooting the s*#@ by posting stupid statuses like "Sitting in the doctor's office waiting on a colonoscopy!" as if people REALLY care.
