Hi - what would be a good tool to find related sites one can backlink to?

You can try some of these search terms in Google:

For Blog Commenting: "Your Keyword" + "Blog" + "Current Month and Year"* (needed to extract updated blogs)

For Forums: "Your Keyword" + "Forum" or "Your Keyword" + "Forum" + "Forum Platform"* (VBulletin, PhpBB, etc.)

There would be different other keyword combinations as well. I found some spots for backlinks to new sites that way.

You can use link popularity tools as well. This can give you the urls of sites that may backlink to you.

Good method. To add more you could also try

Blog Commenting can be a good methods to get back link, but if you overdo it you are counted as a spammer and so its better not to spam other users blogs and put genuine content and take active part in the discussions.
