Own experience tells about high potential of forum posting. Really sometimes, for some sites it is even good to pay for posts.
I suppose there are some special ways for increasing traffic and getting backlinks for the sites using free platforms, such as google blogger, when there is no top level domain and the subdomain is used.
Would appreciate if anybody shares the ways of getting traffic for such sites.
I agree. It's very hard to get a blog comment approved for the high ranking pr sites. I have all but given up on this method a long time ago.

Since you said that blog commenting doesnt work for you, you may try other methods of getting backlinks. you can do forum posting which will allow you to get quality links and will be great to enhance your knowledge too.

Personaly, I have started with directory submissions. This is very good starting point for begginers. Avoid some mistakes, submitting to directories which never will consider your entry.
I think the best way to see which directories are alive is to use Yahoo Site Explorer. Check there sites of your competition, which have got higher rankings in Google. you will see, from which directories coming backlinks to this sites. So, you will know which directories are alive and where to add your URL.
I have never used social bookmarking. Have to try it. Any tips from you fellows,. about social bookmarkings!? Where to start and what to do?

directory submission has no more important in recent day. although high pr directroy and as you tell yahoo site explore help to find out alive site. I used to do social book marking for my site like www.ezyspot.com , www.gabbr.com this is example you can find out from yahoo site explorer .I think social book marking is better than directory submission
