The Experiment:
Writing 5 articles a day and posting them on 17 article submission sites (all moderated, good-to-average PR and with an average of two allowed backlinks) and seeing what happens.

This would create 170 links with keyword rich anchor-text and page content per day. Repeat for 5 months: 17.000 backlinks.

Multiple Choice:
Would this, in your own personal experience, get a page:

(a) Higher on Google
(b) Considerably Higher on Google
(c) Not Higher on Google

Im going to do this and then see what happens, I will report back Meanwhile it would be really interesting to see what people hypothesize based on personal experiences of article posting for the singular purpose of getting higher on google, in other words not intending the articles to actually bring traffic.

"Writing 5 articles a day and posting them on 17 article submission sites " IT means you are submitting duplicate article on average 3 sites which is no way going to help you.
If you can write 5 article daily then submit it to only 5 high authority sites and you make spin them to submit to other article sites. I think that would be much better.

Nope, it would mean that I am creating 170 pages which fall into 5 categories of duplicate content. But that would not hurt the links on these pages, just the individual pages rank on google

I would vote for option a. I think this will improve the ranking - however if you are not doing anything else and only doing this then it will not improve the ranking drastically

How well it helps your rankings is going to depend on the niche and keywords you're targeting. For some keywords, article marketing links are sufficient to achieve a number one ranking - for others, you won't even be on the first page of the search results. Personally I think you'd be better off writing more articles, and focusing on a smaller number of the highest quality directories. Also, find some niche directories for the sake of getting relevant links.

This can really help in ranking well in Google but it would be hell lot of work

That is a good experiment but What about the quantity of back links. Does Google not count it as spam? What do you say about it.

i think, it would help you, because i have done same this activity for my site and i got good traffic + good PR + and Good SERPS on my anchor text keyword. so it works more efficiently than other sem activity.

excellent and so is how the subject was developped. I like some of the comments too though I would prefer we all stay on the suject in order add value to the subject.
