Do you think and agree that an online dating site should focus on one city at a time? then move forward to other cities?

Well the benefit to targeting one city is you can focus all your resources and marketing dollars on that one city. If you go global or target all of North America, then you are competing with the big boys. Targeting a city lets you take advantage of gorilla marketing tactics that the big guys don't generally use. You really can make a dent if you are persistent and have a good marketing plan.

So the answer is good then better than going global? The thing is, the city that I am targeting is not being very responsive.. and I am not even living there to know how to market/advertise well.

Don't use the words "niche" and "demographic" when you do not know what they actually mean!

"demographic" means the distribution of human population according to a specific attribute ie: age, sex, height, sexual preference, nationality, colour, creed, occupational status, smokers, diabetics, over-weight, contact lens wearers or any other attribute you wish to consider.

A "niche" is a small opening, so in marketing is used to describe a sub-section or sub-set of the overall target market. So in a marketplace of "smokers" the niche could be the people who smoke a particular brand.

So a dating site could be said to target a "local" demographic (people living in a particular location) therefore a "niche" demographic would be females in [insert locale].

But the local city that I am in is not big enough. There probably only 90 people would sign up. Any other ways or suggestions I can do?

Market to the world or a country...
If you are scared away by the so called big boys.....find another business.....
Amazon does not sell all the books in the world....
No dating site gets all the business...
You only need "some" of the business....

That may be your most important asset in the success of online dating. Most people go through a profile without a photo regardless of how you can be fabulous.
