Link exchange is na off page promotion. It is a great way to generate back links to your website. These days, generally you will deal on reciprocal links. You may exchange links with webmasters. But always remember to deal with high PR websites in order to exchange the links.

there are three types of link exchange for webmaster.one way links,two way links, 3 way links.among thre 3 ones, the useful ones are one way and 3 way.they are very good for website page rank.But two way links are also good for website traffic if you link back from high pr relevant websites,even though there is no visible effect for pr value.so follow these words,I think they are all good for our websites if you insist in doing them daily.plus, link exchange is off page seo strategy for us.I hope it is helpful to you.

Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. Also knows as Inbound links (IBL's). The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website. Backlinks are important for SEO because some search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query.

When search engines calculate the relevance of a site to a keyword, they consider the number of QUALITY inbound links to that site. So we should not be satisfied with merely getting inbound links, it is the quality of the inbound link that matters.
A search engine considers the content of the sites to determine the QUALITY of a link. When inbound links to your site come from other sites, and those sites have content related to your site, these inbound links are considered more relevant to your site. If inbound links are found on sites with unrelated content, they are considered less relevant. The higher the relevance of inbound links, the greater their quality.

Link exchange would be more helpful for traffic purpose. As for backlinking, one-way contextual backlinks from niche relative sources would be the best ones.If the backlinks you exchange are coming from the related websites to your niche then they can be helpful in terms of ranking, however, if the niche is different, the number of backlinks might not help in improving rankings.

Link exchange is dropping your link in other sites in comments or personally to the webmaster in exchange for their links. Its a great way of building up audience if you target high PR sites for exchange.
