How is Press Release different the Articles Posting? in terms of SEO
though I think press release is done when site is being launched while Articles posting can be done any time?

Based on my own understanding, Press release is about submitting news on your site in many press release site while article posting are posting articles that is related to your site.

They are different, press release is something outcasting whats new to your website, articles is a truth and facts type.

Press releases have a higher chance of being delcined because they are not relevant content. Free press release sites usually dont let you have anchor text to your links either.

Articles have a chance of being syndicated

press releases may get picked up by media

In all article submission site we can use anchor text in author box but very few press release sites support anchor text.

Press releases come from a company.
Articles come from publishers, can be based on a press release too.

Press release is like a news.. it contains the news about a certain topic or site..
while article is something that is written from all the niches that you can think of.

PR is like news content for news publication sites, article is simple information for publishing any where

They both provide quality one way link to your site. But what I like with some press release sites is that your press release can be utilized by Google as "news" in it's SERP with your keyword so it would bring more traffic into your site.

But if you are asking which is better to use, then I advise you to use them both.

both are different but they are providing quality backlinks for your website. pr is best for news visibility and article is best for get ranked on a specific keywords

Some Press release services are charging up to $40 and let you place a link to your site.
Is it worth the money in terms of getting quality back links?
Or should I just continue to use free article submission services?

Article submission can include any type of articles on that you write.

Yes, the answer is in your question. Press release can be done only when you have launched products, service or so. We can use press release only for promotion and not for link building purpose. But article posting can be done at any time and it is mainly for link building purpose.

They are both good and have there uses but articles are better because they can be shared with other Webmasters for more backlinks to your site, and more targeted traffic. A press release is some newsworthy information about your business or product that you submit to media outlets.
Articles are things you write in order to give readers useful information in an area that you have expertise.
Ideally, both would link back to your website.
