As I ever said that Press releases and forum postings are most effective ways of link building and do not forget to bookmark their approved links to make them cache.

The golden rule of quality link building is relevance. Have you ever visited a site that has links for other websites that are not related to the page's content/theme/topic in any way? The way search engines make their customers (surfers) happy is by only returning the most relevant sites for a given search. The important point about this is that while any link has value, you'll personally get more PR value if your back links are from sites that are relevant to yours.

you can choose high PR sites. Choose the only relevant category for submissions.
Choose the Dofollow Sites

I understand that some blogs have NoFollows turned on. Do not worry about it. Even the blog is a NoFollow - as long as your comments are constructive, readers of the blog will still follow the link and visit your website. One thing to note is that you should always post constructive comments. Do not post comment just for the sake of SEO. This is considered spamming and will not help in SEO at all.

Just like what other are suggesting about how you can build quality backlinks, directory submission, article writing, social bookmarking, forums, blogs, classified ads, press release, etc. would really help in generating backlinks for your site. But of course, along with all of these submissions and posting make sure that your content have a quality and interesting to tell.
