I have a customer who wants me to provide him with online marketing for his hotel which is in a unknown place for tourists.

Adwords - I don't think he needs this and he ranks top 2 in most of the top keywords for his destination.

Facebook - I think facebook has some value, can be sneaky and post about how great his destination is and which hotel you stayed at, but not sure how effective it will be. Maybe even thinking of facebook ads?

Forums - posting in the country forums of where this place is.

Trip advisor - writing reviews etc.

Any other Ideas?

Thanks

If there is a hotel already there it probably isn't exactly "unknown" just not on the "usual destinations list"

There is always a market for "new destinations" BUT Search is not going to be the way to go.

For travel, paid advertising and Search only really work for places that people are actively looking for.

To market a "new" destination you will need to find the places where people talk about new or unusual destinations they have visited or would like to visit and of course posting in forums for that country isn't going to be of much use as people posting there have probably already heard of the place.

This is the kind of marketing where "social media" IS useful, but for real marketing not the usual dim-witted link dropping.

The keywords you should target should be general holiday, vacation, tourist keyword rather than destination specific if that is the case. Try doing some keyword research around general holiday and vacation themes.

You can also do blog commenting. Keep yourself to traveling related discussions, it helps you to get industry related traffic that can convert into leads.

If you need a partner for this project let me know.
