I personaly would recomend doorway domains that provide some real value to the user. Host them on seperate servers, or at the very least different IP for DNS.
The trick is, as I said, make them of some real value. Don't just make it a paragraph of text loaded with keywords. If your selling multiple products make a domain to promote your specials, or seperate domains for seperate specials. The key is to not make the user feel as though they were cheated by following the link to your doorway. Also, I would not make it like an advertisement, more like a one page website with no, click here to go to the main site crud. Just order now links for something of that nature.
