The best way to do this is to get a professional service. If your client only needs basic stats (which don't tell you much) there are a number of free ones. Do a search for 'Web Site Statistics' and you will find many.
However, if your client is in business selling on the net, they should have a professional system that provides more in depth numbers. Look for one that does a comparison between a current time period and a previous time period. That way you can see the progress of the site without having to do all the analysis or, as most do, guess at the results.
