Ok, I realize that everybody who could read this is already in this
Forum but this is kind of for my own benefit...

The first thing you have to do is find a forum in whatever niche
you are in. It does nobody any good to have someone posting in the
sports forum a thread about growing Brocolli. You can do a Google
search for forums in your niche.

Then you will need to get Involved, Participate, Ask Questions and
Provide Answers. The most important thing you can do is provide
Value. Nobody wants to click on the signature of some knuckle head
who just posts a bunch of affiliate links and provides no value.

Every comment you make or answer you provide is a chance to get
someone to click on your link in your signature.

The signature is the important part of your post obviously. You
must create a stand out signature that conforms to the rules of
the forum.

In conclusion, If you keep participating and stay involved and
provide VALUE to the forum, people will begin to click on your
signature and sign up for your offer.

Please feel free to add to this post as I am interested in other
ways to use the forums.

Thanks for Reading,
Herb

Internet Marketing and Webmaster forums are ok with signatures but how many forums that do not fall into these categories are happy to allow someone to parade their commercial sig?

If someone is established and has been posting for a long time then perhaps yes but most are anti-signature. Unlike about a decade ago when running a forum was a hobby, it is now commercial and most are not too happy to give someone a leg up for free.

Maybe I am looking at the wrong places but this seems to be the the state of affairs on many forums.

Actually, I've found the opposite to be true - as long as you make a concerted effort to contribute to the community a non-IM forum is more likely to allow more or less free reign on links in signatures and posts as long as they are helpful and relevant.

Especially if it those links refer the other forum members to a helpful resource (i.e. your site).

You may run into some grief promoting a link to a squeeze page and almost definitely by promoting a link directly to a product sales page, but if you're smart about it and promote the link to your content-filled, authoritative blog then it should be ok. And of course, that blog is where you'll have your lead-capture mechanism such as an opt-in form. That's the best way to start your sales funnel.

Is it what they call forum ads posting?
